"So Great" was one of the songs written during the recent Compassionart songwriters' retreat in Perthshire, Scotland. All the songwriters, publishers, managers, copyright institutes, and agents involved have waived their rights and are donating their efforts on this project to Compassionart. The songs are to be given through Compassionart to the world not just to sing, but also to raise money for the relief of suffering around the planet. One half of the money received over the songs’ lifetimes will go to the songwriters’ charity of choice, and the other 50% will go to a charitable project agreed upon by all the songwriters involved.

The Rubyz

What do you get when you combine the hot pop vocal stylings of three teenage girls with a powerful message of faith? Allow us to introduce The Rubyz.

The trio, consisting of Cammie Hall (16), Alexis Slifer (14), and Marissa Milele (13), is the brainchild of hit-maker Robert Beeson. Beeson is famed for having found such artists as Leeland, Joy Williams, Third Day, and Jars of Clay.

“Kids love catchy songs, but so much of what’s popular today focuses on meaningless, trivial things,” says Beeson. “The Rubyz are different in that their songs are not only engaging, but they contain messages of eternal value. Their music helps point kids back to what’s really important in life, and that’s Christ.”

The Rubyz' single "13" challenges teens to take the problems they face and turn them over to God when life gets too hard. Additionally, "Without You" is a song that emphasizes the decision to walk daily with Christ.

Produced by Chris Omartian (Hillary Duff, Pink, Jump5), The Rubyz is one gem certain to shine brightly with teens and parents alike.

The trio takes its name from Proverbs 31, a passage that extols the virtues of honorable women, whose price is "far greater than rubies."

Four-time Dove Award-nominated progressive rock band Leeland is releasing its second studio album, Opposite Way. Opposite Way was produced by Matt Bronleewe (Michael W. Smith, Natalie Imbruglia), mixed by Ben Grosse (Ben Folds, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee at Smoak Stack Studios and Pentavarit Studios.

Phil Keaggy

In June of 1978, Phil Keaggy entered the Hedden West Studio in Schaumberg, Illinois to record his first instrumental record. Later that year, through NewSong Records, he released The Master and the Musician to critical acclaim, making lifelong fans out of tens of thousands of people throughout the world. This legendary recording has been talked about so much, and is a favourite to so many fans, that it has reached near mythical proportions throughout the music community.

In recent years, many have been in search of this album or the 1988 re-issue, only to find them out of print; that is, until now. Phil Keaggy is releasing The Master and the Musician 30th Anniversary Edition, a 2 CD set loaded with extras and bonus content never before available. This landmark project is an essential for Phil Keaggy fans the world over.

Passion Series (Various Artists)

Uniting thousands of university students in an effort to make God’s fame known in the campuses and churches of the nation, the Passion movement continues to gain momentum. This fall, the movement has launched Passion Regional: USA gatherings across the country. These gatherings happen in Boston and Chicago in the fall and continue in Los Angeles, Dallas, Washington DC, and Atlanta through spring.

It’s a sensitive and stylized adaptation of the music that was at the root of rock and roll, blues, and popular culture,” says Kevin Max. “The Blood is about the story of redemption and grace, found only in the salvation story of Jesus Christ. There is an extreme sense of respect and sensitivity to the art as we approach the choosing and arrangement of these songs.”

Kevin has come full circle, and has realized how much Gospel music has influenced his decisions in music. This is his homage to the music that helped define him musically.
