Mennonite Jazz Committee of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada consists of Nelson Boschman on keyboards (who also wrote the title track), Brian Thiessen on electric guitar (who also mixed the album), Mark Bender on double bass, Kenton Wiens on drums, and Steve Klassen on trumpet. Several members of the group also play regularly with other bands and as studio musicians. In addition, Thiessen is part of the Brian Doerksen worship band, Wiens performs with Laurell Hubick, and Boschman has his own jazz trio.
The name Mennonite Jazz Committee often brings a smile to people, especially those of the Mennonite persuasion, because Mennonites are known for forming committees to try and accomplish things. MJC is a committee that really gets down to business and gets something done.
In June (2005), House of James was the venue for an excellent concert by MJC. "There's something quite amazing about this jazz combo - their musicianship is first class, their arrangements are imaginative and creative, and their camaraderie on stage brings joy to their audience."
--Lando Klassen, Owner of House of James
